Penalty Area: Face2Face

Penalty Area: Face2Face is a football penalty game built around a single duel: you, the ball, and a goalkeeper called ED. You strike by swiping through the ball, and the speed and curve of the swipe decide how hard the shot is and where it bends, so you can drive it low, tuck it into a corner or curl it around the keeper. A second finger can act as a planted foot for extra control. There are four modes: The Run, which lasts until your first miss; Fifty, a fixed set of 50 shots; Duel, a two-player mode on the same device; and Practice, with no score to chase. Goals in The Run and Fifty earn levels, and level milestones unlock Game Center achievements, alongside world rankings. The game is the work of solo developer Eray Dinç, who based ED on the goalkeeper who coached him as a child. It has no ads and no subscription: The Run can be played for free, and a single one-time purchase unlocks all four modes and unlimited play. It also runs on other iPhones and on iPad. On iPhone Duo, the developer describes the fold itself as part of how the game is played, turning the phone into a goal you face rather than a flat screen.

The developer's App Store description says that on iPhone Duo the game "makes the fold part of the game": with the phone folded, you are not just looking at a goal but facing goalkeeper ED. The same shooting challenge is available on other iPhones and iPad without the fold. DuoDiscover has not yet tested Penalty Area: Face2Face on a device.
