Fold Smasher

Fold Smasher, by Ouail Bellal, is an arcade game with no buttons and no on-screen joystick: the controller is the hinge. Beetles, cockroaches, mice, runaway sports balls and cartoon characters skitter across both halves of the open screen, and when you see an opening you close the phone to trap them between the panels.

Opening it again reveals what you caught, with coloured splats, broken armour plates or confetti left exactly where the target was, and the marks stay on screen until you wipe them. Each target has its own voice lines and chat bubbles pleading for mercy, and the game adds custom haptics and spatial sound to every fold, squeeze and smash. The roster includes an emerald beetle and a crimson ladybug to start with, plus a cockroach, a field mouse, an electric cyber spider, sports balls, a pink balloon and more.

Fold Smasher is free to download, with in-app purchases that unlock more targets.

According to its App Store description, Fold Smasher is "built from the ground up" for foldable iPhones and is played with the hinge. Targets move across both halves of the unfolded inner display; starting to close the phone freezes them, and snapping it shut smashes them between the screens. The game reads the hinge angle to time the move, and opening the phone shows the result where the target was trapped. DuoDiscover has not yet tested Fold Smasher on a device.
