Type Notes

Type Notes turns note-taking into typing on a vintage typewriter. Every key clacks with matching haptics, the carriage moves across the page, the typebars strike and a bell rings at the margin. You can roll the paper up and down by hand, tear a page out with a swipe, and the desk lamp follows the time of day, switching on at nightfall. It is meant for journaling, letters, poems and everyday notes.

There are 12 typewriters and 16 papers to choose from, from cream and onionskin to kraft, graph, airmail and blueprint, plus seasonal stationery. A page can be shared as a typed sheet, as an envelope closed with a red wax seal, or as a postcard with its own stamp, and exported as an image, PDF, video or GIF.

Pages are filed in an archive with folders, tags, rubber stamps such as Draft or Done, search, version history and daily backups. Notes can be imported from Apple Notes, text and Markdown files, saved from other apps through the share extension, and added with Siri and Shortcuts. There are no accounts, ads or tracking; pages stay on your devices and sync through your own iCloud with the text encrypted.

The developer states that Type Notes is adapted for iPhone Duo: built with the iOS 27 SDK, it resizes to fill the 7.6-inch inner display when the phone is unfolded, giving the typewriter and the page more room. The developer does not describe a specific folded, half-open or Split View layout. DuoDiscover has not yet tested Type Notes on a device.
