Overcast

Overcast is a podcast player for iPhone written and run by a single independent developer, Marco Arment, under Overcast Radio, LLC. It covers the everyday basics of a podcast app, including subscribing to shows, adding single episodes without subscribing, downloading for offline listening, notifications for new episodes and a sleep timer, and adds a few audio tools of its own. Smart Speed shortens silences in speech so episodes take less time without sounding sped up, and Voice Boost evens out volume between shows. Playlists can be built with smart filters and per-podcast priorities, and the app also offers search, browsing and personalised recommendations. There is an Apple Watch app with standalone playback and CarPlay support. Overcast is free and supported by ads that promote other podcasts; an Overcast Premium subscription removes them. The developer states that the app contains no third-party analytics, ad services or tracking code. Version 2026.10, released on 9 October 2026, lists interface improvements for iPhone Duo alongside an option to disable the sleep timer fade-out, better performance on large collections and better handling of failed downloads. The release notes do not describe what the Duo changes are in detail. It suits regular podcast listeners who want fine control over playback and queues.

The release notes for Overcast 2026.10 include the line "Interface improvements for iPhone Duo". The developer has not published further detail about how the interface changes on the inner or outer display, so no fold-specific behaviour is confirmed. DuoDiscover has not yet tested it on an iPhone Duo.
